Job Summary
The Assistant Chef – Onboard Kitchen Support plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the cruise ship galley. Working under the supervision of senior chefs and the Executive Chef, this position supports the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality meals for passengers and crew onboard. The role requires strong teamwork, discipline, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, international hospitality environment at sea. Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation, cooking, and plating of meals according to cruise line menus and standards

Support senior chefs in daily galley operations, including mise en place preparation

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils

Follow strict food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures at all times (HACCP standards)

Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies and ingredients properly

Ensure proper labeling and storage of food items to avoid contamination and waste

Help in buffet setup, replenishment, and presentation during service hours

Support inventory control and report shortages or spoilage to supervisors

Work collaboratively with international kitchen staff in a multicultural environment

Adhere to all maritime safety regulations and onboard operational procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications

Basic culinary training or diploma in Food Production or Culinary Arts preferred

Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety practices

Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under pressure

Good teamwork and communication skills

Physically fit and able to work in confined kitchen spaces for long hours

Willingness to work at sea for extended contract periods

Experience

0–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, hotel, or catering environment preferred

Fresh culinary graduates are encouraged to apply

Previous cruise ship or large-scale hospitality experience is an advantage
Working Hours

Rotational shipboard schedule (typically 10–12 hours per day depending on operations)

7 days per week during contract period with regulated rest hours as per maritime law

Contract duration typically ranges from 4 to 9 months onboard
