Job Summary

Cruise Ship Jobs is seeking enthusiastic, service-focused, and highly motivated professionals for the position of Assistant Waiter / Café Crew – Onboard Dining Support Staff. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about hospitality, guest service, and working in an international team environment.

As an Assistant Waiter or Café Crew member, you will play an essential role in delivering exceptional dining experiences to guests onboard. You will support restaurant and café operations by assisting senior waitstaff, preparing dining areas, serving food and beverages, and ensuring guests receive professional, friendly, and efficient service throughout their voyage.

This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, stamina, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment while maintaining the highest standards of service excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior waiters and restaurant supervisors in delivering high-quality food and beverage service.
  • Prepare restaurant, buffet, café, and dining service areas before service periods.
  • Set up tables with proper cutlery, glassware, napkins, and dining accessories.
  • Serve beverages, meals, snacks, desserts, and specialty coffee items to guests promptly.
  • Ensure tables are cleaned, reset, and maintained throughout service hours.
  • Support café operations including pastry display arrangement, beverage preparation, and counter service.
  • Learn menu items, ingredients, and daily specials to accurately assist guests with questions.
  • Follow guest dietary requests and communicate special requirements to kitchen staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety standards according to company policies.
  • Assist with inventory management, stock replenishment, and supply organization.
  • Handle guest requests professionally and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Participate in emergency drills and comply with maritime safety regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with multinational crew members to achieve operational excellence.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Hospitality, hotel management, restaurant service, or food service certification is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Basic English communication skills required; additional languages are considered a plus.
  • Positive attitude, professional appearance, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask in busy dining environments.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of food presentation and service etiquette preferred.

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in restaurants, cafés, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, or food service establishments preferred.
  • Fresh candidates with hospitality training and a passion for customer service may also be considered.
  • Previous international hospitality experience is an advantage.

Working Hours

  • 8 to 11 hours per day depending on operational requirements.
  • 6 to 7 days per week based on cruise schedules.
  • Rotational shifts including breakfast, lunch, dinner, late-night, and special event service.
  • Contract durations typically range from 6 to 9 months onboard.

  • Knowledge of restaurant service standards and guest interaction techniques.
  • Understanding of hygiene, sanitation, and food safety practices.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift trays, and work extended hours.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing operational demands.
  • Strong problem-solving and guest recovery skills.
