Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our clinical laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely collecting blood samples from patients, ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens, and supporting laboratory preparation processes. This role is critical in ensuring accurate diagnostic results and delivering high-quality patient care within a fast-paced healthcare environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all age groups
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and proper labeling of all specimens
  • Follow strict infection control and safety protocols at all times
  • Prepare and transport blood samples to the laboratory in a timely manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of phlebotomy equipment and workstations
  • Communicate effectively with patients to ensure comfort and reduce anxiety
  • Document all procedures and maintain accurate medical records
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare professionals
  • Dispose of biohazard waste according to hospital guidelines
  • Monitor and report any adverse patient reactions during or after collection

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certification or diploma in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of blood collection techniques and safety procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic understanding of laboratory processes and medical terminology
  • Ability to work under pressure in a clinical environment
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

Experience

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in phlebotomy or clinical laboratory support preferred
  • Fresh graduates with relevant certification may also be considered

Working Hours

  • Full-time position
  • Shift-based schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as per hospital requirements
  • Flexibility to work rotational shifts in a hospital environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in venous and capillary blood collection techniques
  • Strong understanding of hygiene, infection control, and safety standards
  • Ability to manage multiple patients efficiently
  • Emotional stability and professionalism in handling clinical settings
  • Team collaboration and effective communication with medical staff
  • Ability to maintain accuracy under time-sensitive conditions
