Job Summary

Cruise Ship Jobs is seeking a motivated, customer-focused, and energetic Retail Sales Associate to join our onboard retail team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced hospitality environment while delivering exceptional guest service. The Retail Sales Associate will be responsible for supporting daily gift shop operations, assisting passengers with product selections, maintaining merchandise displays, processing sales transactions, and ensuring guests enjoy a premium shopping experience throughout their voyage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests into the onboard retail shop with a professional and friendly attitude.
  • Assist passengers with product recommendations, gift selections, souvenirs, luxury items, apparel, accessories, cosmetics, and travel essentials.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems accurately for cash, card, and onboard account transactions.
  • Maintain attractive merchandise displays and ensure products are properly stocked and organized.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report stock shortages to retail supervisors.
  • Participate in receiving, unpacking, labeling, and pricing merchandise deliveries.
  • Support promotional campaigns, special sales events, and product demonstrations.
  • Handle guest inquiries, product concerns, and exchanges professionally.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards within all retail areas.
  • Follow company sales targets and contribute to revenue goals.
  • Ensure compliance with onboard safety, security, and operational procedures.
  • Assist in end-of-day sales reconciliation and reporting activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
  • Certificate or training in retail sales, hospitality, or customer service is an advantage.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work with guests from multicultural backgrounds.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn retail systems quickly.
  • Sales-driven mindset with strong customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to speak additional languages is considered a strong advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in retail sales, customer service, hospitality, or luxury sales environments.
  • Previous experience in cruise ships, hotels, resorts, airports, or duty-free retail is highly preferred.
  • Experience handling cash, card transactions, and inventory systems is beneficial.

Working Hours

  • Rotational shifts based on cruise schedules.
  • Typically 8–11 hours per day, depending on operational requirements.
  • Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and port days.
  • Contract duration usually ranges from 6 to 8 months onboard.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of retail sales techniques and merchandising practices.
  • Understanding of luxury guest service standards.
  • Ability to upsell products while maintaining guest satisfaction.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an international team.
  • Capability to adapt quickly in a dynamic onboard environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift merchandise when required.
