Job Summary

Varsity Tutors is seeking a passionate and dedicated Virtual Reading Specialist to support elementary-level students in developing strong literacy skills. This remote position is ideal for educators who are enthusiastic about reading instruction and committed to helping young learners build confidence and proficiency in reading comprehension, phonics, and fluency. As a Virtual Reading Specialist, you will deliver engaging, personalized instruction through an online platform, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs and fostering a love for reading.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, interactive virtual reading sessions tailored to elementary students.
Assess students’ reading levels and identify areas for improvement.
Develop customized lesson plans focusing on phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress with parents/guardians.
Utilize digital tools and resources to enhance the online learning experience.
Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment to boost student confidence.
Maintain accurate records of sessions, progress reports, and student performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field.
Strong understanding of elementary reading instruction and literacy development.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in using online teaching platforms and digital tools.
Ability to engage and motivate young learners in a virtual setting.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Patience, adaptability, and a student-centered approach to teaching.

Experience

Minimum of 1–3 years of experience teaching reading at the elementary level (preferred).
Prior experience in online or remote teaching/tutoring is an advantage.
Experience working with diverse learners, including those with learning differences, is a plus.

Working Hours

Flexible, remote work schedule.
Availability during peak after-school hours and weekends is preferred.
Part-time and full-time opportunities may be available based on demand.
